Maxwell Lake Hike in Northeast Oregon
Lori successfully defended her dissertation on July 3rd, 1995 and to celebrate, we packed the gear and left Pullman for northeastern Oregon's Eagle Cap Wilderness for a two-night camp and hike. It was about a four hour drive to the trailhead and we arrived after dark, so we quickly set up camp and celebrated Dr. Lori's successful defense with a "little" champagne. The weather was beautiful and allowed a pleasant hike; sunny and mid 70's during the day, albeit near freezing after dark at the 7,500' lake elevation. Derby loved every minute of it.
Wheat fields on the Palouse had just started to lose their green as we left Pullman
"Dr." Lori obviously shows relief at the base camp near the trailhead in the Lostine River canyon. The obligatory toast was made with a very little bit of bubbly. Our gourmet dinner was purchased at a grocery store.
We headed out across the Lostine River early the next morning, Independence Day. It was an absolutely beautiful day.
Fording these falls looked easier than it was with a full pack- while carrying Derby. That was very cold water.
