News & Rant
1/27/05
Lots of news since November! For starters, I'm no longer the president of the club. Donald Walter and Caren Walter will be taking the President's hat for 2005. I wish to thank the club for letting my relatively inexperienced self be president for 2004 and I wish the best for the Walters. I hope you all give them your support and help.
I'm moving to the North Seattle area somewhere to start a new job. I enjoyed working for OHSU, and I grew up in the Portland area so it's tough to leave, but a company wanted me really bad and they're proving it with their checkbooks! I'm looking forward to making progress on my remaining two bugs. I'm down from three to two after selling my white '65 to a young man here in Aloha. I saw it rolling down TV- highway several weeks ago. I think it went to a good home.
The 2005 Bug Run is coming up and there's a joint meeting with Good Times at the dragstrip in early February. hot VW's magazine is covering the event this year and we're advertising in the magazine to promote the event and increase attendance. I've enlisted the amazing design and drawing talents of my brother-in-law, Johnny Singer, to make an eye-catching, yet readable, advertisement for the magazine. The ad could be as large as 1/3 to 1/2 page.
We've had several club dinners, and another coming up at the Tanasbourne Chevy's a the end of February.
The Yahoo group is taking on some increased interest from local VW enthusiasts and there's a buzz going about there lately.
I'll probably have to stop putting as much effort in to updating this site as I leave the Portland area, but Ryan and Donald are both interested in working with the main rosecityvolksters.com site. I'm happy to help them along and I'll still be interested in the club even while in Seattle. I hope to run into a lot of you in Seattle, Puyallup and Yakima, as well as PDX and Woodburn.
Take care.

Club meeting happened as usual. News: the 20th Annual Woodburn Bug Run is scheduled for June 4th, 2005 in Woodburn Oregon USA. We need to start thinking about the logistics of the event. Blow-up motor, etc. See dozens of pictures from 2004 here.
Tony gave me some accounting numbers. The club has about $2000 in checking and $1300 in savings. As an RCV presidential perk, I plan on using the money to restore my car. ha. just kidding.
Miles for Molly came up. No one knew anything about it.
Discussion of a Christmas event happened; to be continued next month.
Gary suggested we really get involved in supporting and participating in the DBB event this summer. I'm all for it. I'll be there, given I don't have to work that weekend.
Don W. presented the "What Is It?" and Raleigh nailed it on the third clue. Raleigh made a decent club dinner choice of Nonna Emilia in Aloha. November 21st at 6:00 PM. I'm looking forward to it.
Special thanks to the Walters for hosting the last club dinner at their house. Caren cooked a ham that was delicious. I was full for two days.

The club meeting was sparse and some regulars were notably absent. We had a visitor, Larry, who owns a late model beetle sedan. The WCS event was discussed and folks enjoyed it and hope we will be invited to return next year (see sidebar).
Justin will be hosting a restoration and repair clinic at his house in Woodburn on Saturday and Sunday Sept 25 and 26th. I'll be posting a map in the Yahoo RCV group and will be sending a general annoucement via email.
It was decided that I would retain the official domain name for the club "www.rosecityvolksters.com" and that the transfer fee and domain name registration would be paid by the club. This will allow me to keep the appearance of the entry to our site current and fresh.
Richard Bradford won Caren Walter's "What is it?" quiz and was awarded a stuffed VW toy which he promptly gave to little Max. Peter and Donielle selected the next Club Dinner site. The restaurant is Fuddruckers in Tualatin off of exit 290. Date and time are September 26th at 6:00 PM. Stop by Justin's then head out for a bite to eat.
Last month's club dinner at Amigos in Aloha was attended by more than just me and my kids! Koeglers, Ploofs, Walters, and Raleigh were there. We laughed, we cried, we laughed.
The Walter's suggested hosting a Christmas party at their house.
The Miles for Molly event came into question with no one having the foggiest.

I spent some time vacationing in Whistler, Canada* so I'm a bit behind, but I have news.
* I saw a totally bad-azz lowered cream convertible ghia crossing the border into Canada. Pristine. Porsche 5-spokes, etc.
First news is the Blooms and Beetles event will happen on Saturday August 28th and there are plenty of participants (see sidebar). I'm vacationing in eastern Oregon with the family, so I'll miss it :(
The last club dinner in Tualatin was a sham. I hung my head and dined in shame, alone. (Or was it pride?). Next? 8/22 at Amigos on Farmington in Aloha. I wonder what will happen?

The Seattle weekend is on and I'm not there. Hope to get a good report from other club members attending Saturday's vintage meet and Sunday's drag swap show shine at Pacific Raceway.
Club meeting happened on Tuesday the 13th. Many in attendance and a decent show of VW's in the lot. Robb drive his oval rag, I had my 62 rag (as usual), Burce and some others brought their rides, too. Guest Dana brought a nice blue buggy.
Club decided to get more club shirts screened. Brad won Richard's "what is it?". Dinner will be at Schlotsky's in Tualatin at 6:30 on August 7th.

I've been working on the bug run images and am determining the best way to share them; canned photo album, custom pages linked from this site, the Samba, etc. I'm leaning towards custom pages, but with over 100 images, umm, that would take a while.

The Bug Run is over. Other than a massive allergy attack that left my eyes as red as tomatoes, it was a blast. I drove my old '60 sunroof down there in the rain which lasted until about 9:30 AM. Overcast most of the day with a few sunbreaks. Attendence probably suffered because of the weather, but there were quite a few cars there and after the track was dried, the racing started. I shot about 200 pictures and am working my way through them to get a nice set of images prepared for the web. President's choice went to a nice stock '63 beetle and drag race champion was Tim Burgress and his '68 Ghia from Auburn, WA. Congrats to both. Look for both of these vehicles to grace the front of next year's official event shirt.
Club dinner at China Bay on Sun June 6th included Gary's family, Mark and Cyndi and me and my family. WTF? Where is the Club? C'mon guys and gals, do I have bad breath or something? sigh.

The 19th Annual Bug Run is June 5th in Woodburn. Get thy selves to Woodburn this weekend!!

My 1965 Bug is <cringe> officially up for sale. More details to come.
4/26/04
Special note from the President: Drive and enjoy your VW daily.

Stuff has happened. I drove the '60 ragtop to Eugene to meet with Good Times VW club and much about the BUG RUN was discussed. It shall be Good. T-shirt design has been determined. I couldn't make it to the April RCV Club meeting because of multiple committments. Justin informed me that Tony gave a briefing about the Eugene meeting and that the meeting was good.
Looks like the main rosecityvolksters.com site is partly restored. I talked to Simeon. He's swamped and doesn't have time to keep the page fully functional all the time. He offered the job to me. ....Hmmmm... president and webmaster. What's the pay for that job?

Dinner at Pepita's in Beaverton was good. A few more folks showed up relative to last month at George's. That's a step in the right direction.
Bruce mentioned the end-of-summer Gaston show. Keep it in mind.
Puyallup is next up. Hope to see you there. If anyone wants to make plans for a caravan, let me know and I can post information here and send out email.

DDB is planning on meeting at Fastlap Go-Kart at 7:00 on Saturday, April 3rd. An invitation to RCV T3 enthusiasts has been made to us by DBB's Brook.
3/10/04
March Club Meeting.
Plenty of folks showed up at Round Table Pizza in Beaverton and Martin and Brook from the DDB came to promo their event. Cruise on Friday (Lake Oswego) and show on Saturday (PCC Sylvania) on the weekend of the PIR meet (August 1st). DDB is seeking volunteers and participants to help with the show. Several folks expressed interest. More to come.
Bruce nailed Justin's What Is It? and it was decided that we would have the club dinner on March 21st at 6:30 at: Pepita's in Beaverton 4190 SW Cedar Hills Blvd, Beaverton, OR 97005 Phone: (503)574-4420
It was decided that because we no longer have an acting events coordinator, folks who want to suggest an event should take the initiative to actually coordinate and organize it. There are folks in the club who will help spread the word via email (like me), however, I can 't take the responsibility for coordinating all of the events.
2/29/04
Where was everybody? Only three club members showed up a the February Club dinner at George's Giant Burgers in Tigard.
