Explosion in our garage on December 24th 2000 in early evening.
Everything in the garage was incinerated, most aluminum or other light metals were melted or vaporized.
The ensuing fire burned through the rafters and the roof

The good part is that no one was home at the time of the explosion and we were fully insured. It was concluded by Allstate that the cause of the fire was a faulty gasoline line fitting from the Ghia. Gasoline vapor from the leaking fuel was ignited by the furnace in the garage causing a massive explosion and subsequent fire. The garage doors were all blown off, and the fire destroyed the ceiling and roof and some of the kitchen. Thick, black smoke and soot permeated the rest of the house and ruined all non-metal or non-ceramic/glass items. All wood, plastic, fabric and cloth items were thrown away due to severe heat, smoke, and soot damage. All sheetrock, cabinetry, doors and carpeting were removed. The entire roof was replaced, and 15 new trusses were installed, as were new drywall, cabinets, carpets and fixtures.
